Paragon Systems currently holds the contract to provide armed security to the Federal Protective Service (FPS) to secure numerous federal facilities in the Northern NJ Region.
Paragon has also been awarded a contract to provide armed guards at several FEMA vaccination sites in our region, and we were just informed that FEMA will be opening a mega-vaccination site in the Newark area within the next 2 weeks. This site will require approximately 36 guards while in operation, and it will be open for 2 months – 7 days a week. Some of these 36 posts will be in operation for 24 hours a day.
The FPS has granted a waiver which allows us to hire retired law enforcement officers (with a valid NJSP Permit to Carry a Handgun to work on this contact without having to meet all of the current requirements needed by a full time Protective Security Officer (PSO).
The requirements for active and retired police officers are as follows:
>Personally owned or duty weapon (.9mm or .40) with 3 magazines with a capacity of at least 10 that the officer is currently qualified with.
>Level 2 or Better Holster
>Current American Heart Association or Red Cross CPR-AED-FA Certification
>Current O.C. / Expandable Baton Certification
>Ability to pass a basic background check
Paragon will provide the following:
On site instruction and supervision
American Heart Association AED-CPR-FA certification, and an O.C. / Baton Certification if needed.
A duty belt (minus holster & weapon) which included a double magazine pouch, pepper spray, expandable baton, flashlight, handcuffs, med Pouch, and keepers.
Paragon issued uniform.
Ammunition if needed.
This site will pay $30 per hour – each officer will receive a 1099 at the end of the year for tax purposes.
Officers will be able to work full or part time hours during this period.
A SORA Card is not necessary for this position as all work is performed for the Federal Government.
